My Biography
Kenneth Ashigbey is a distinguished Ghanaian executive and thought leader in mining, telecommunications, and media advocacy. I currently serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, where I champion sustainable and responsible mining practices in Ghana’s extractive industry.
Before my appointment to the Chamber of Mines, I held executive leadership roles as CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications and the Digital Chamber of Ghana. My leadership journey reflects a consistent commitment to industry transformation, strategic governance, and institutional development across sectors.
A passionate scholar and lifelong learner, I hold a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) in Corporate Governance from SMC University, an MBA in Finance from Leicester University in the UK, and a BSc in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from KNUST. He recently added a Master of Arts in IT Law to his portfolio of qualifications.
I am a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and a Certified Director (Cert IoD). I am also a Fellow of the Ghana Institution of Engineers (FGhIE), the Institute of Directors Ghana (FIoD), the Ghana Institute of Management (FGIM), and the Institute of Chartered Economists (FCE).
Beyond boardrooms and technical leadership, I am a tireless advocate for media freedom and environmental protection. I am the Convener of both the Ghana and Media Coalitions Against Galamsey, leading national efforts to combat illegal mining and promote ecological stewardship. He views this mission as a spiritual and civic calling, his personal expression of the values enshrined in Laudato Si, Pope Francis’s encyclical on the care for our common home.
I am a firm believer in the boundless potential of Africa’s youth. I see them as vital agents of change and am deeply committed to mentoring and developing future generations of transformational leaders across the continent. Additionally, I am a firm believer in the inherent power and capacity of all people, working with various individuals and groups to develop young people, especially Ghanaians, to own the challenges of their environment and ride on the back of these challenges as opportunities to transform their world into a better place and also, in the process, become employment creators, wealthy, happy & fulfilled people.
Most importantly, I am a strong believer in my Trinitarian God, the Father, Son & Holy Spirit. I am a sinner saved by grace. I love my wife, Numelio; my kids, Bubune, Edem Jnr, & Nuna, my mum, Rex & my sisters, Mama & Nerry. I hope to own & keep 13 Boerboels and also breed them on the farm at Abutia Kpota.
I believe that the media is a powerful tool that Africa should use to cause a paradigm shift and leapfrog the development gap. As the current media owners, we owe it to posterity to go beyond using the media to just inform, entertain and educate. We need to use it as a development and empowering tool.
