Talk on giving to St. Theresa’s Parish Kaneshie
Thanksgiving & not Collections
@. We need to convert our collection to offering, and it should be a good offering, so God will accept it as once he accepted the offering of His Servant Abel & the Bread & Wine offered by the Priest Melchzedech.
@. The Lord is our Shepherd & there is nothing we shall want.
1. Malachi 3-8-15 – 8-9 Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing me. But you say, ‘How have we robbed you? ’ In your tithes and contributions. You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me, the whole nation of you.
2. Malachi 10-12 Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need. I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil, and your vine in the field shall not fail to bear, says the Lord of hosts.
2. St. Paul tells us that we are free from the law & we should if give generously, even out of our need, not our excess
2. Luke 4:26 and Elijah was sent to none of them but only to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow.1King 17:8-20
3. Mark 12:42-44 And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny. And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”
4. 2 Cor 9:6-8 The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.
5. Read the whole of 2 Cor chapter 8&9 you will see what St. Paul tells us as Catholic Christains we ought to do to support the Church
5. Luke 6:38 give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
6. Cannon Law 222
Clause 1. The Christian faithful are obliged to assist with the needs of the Church so that the Church has what is necessary for divine worship, for apostolic works and works of Charity and for the decent sustenance of ministers.
7. In the past we had missionaries from Europe come & support us, the Priest had benefactors from the home parishes send us money to build our church.
8. That time is over, we are sending missionaries our, Fr. Rex went out to Latin America, we have a South African Pope, very soon we will have an African Pope.
9. It is the time of Ghana to support the Church
10. It is time for us to only be contributing just to fund our needs as a parish
11. The parish needs to move into investing to envagelize
12. Who will be buying the large tracts of land to plant parishes, go to Ga rural, the other small churches who came after us, have build & com missed their churches, we are still marking time
13. It is time to move from the collection mentality & move to offering & giving God more than the 10th.
14. The thanksgiving offering once a month, is for us to look into our lives in the month and see what God has done for us & give to His work & He will bless us like He blessed the a widow who supported Elija in 1King 17:8-20 & our Jars & Jugs shall over flow is oil & flour.
15. We should support Gods work with our wealth like Joseph of Aremathia & Nicodamus – they paid for Christ burial
16. For some of us our effort might be able to actively engage in evangelism our cash can go. It does not matter how much we give. Christ said the widow’s mite was the most accepted because – “but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”
17. It is time for me and you to open up the gates of heaven & let God pour out His blessing on us. We need to unlock it by giving for His work.
18. If we breath in without breathing out we will die, if we only want to receive but not give out we will also die & it is when we keep giving & emptying our hands & having open hands that God when He comes in will find those hands open & pour more into it.
19. The Mal 3:8-15 is a Biblical Principle & people who are not Christains are benefiting from it. For me & you Catholic Christians we are called to give freely beyond our 10% & it means our blessing will be more & God will fight our battles for us. He whole world in his hands & He will let you have it.m
