Ghana Time is no good. GIMPA could have done better

GIMPA congregation today was shameful, the Programme started at 10:52am instead of 9:00am. It took the President to apologize. He was the 3rd speaker not counting the 2 MCs who spoke earlier, they kept everybody sitting there in the sourcing sun with no explanation.

It will have been bad from any Ghanaian institution, but I might not have commented but from an institution of higher learning which is supposed to train & educate our public administrators, is this what they are training & educating them. Maybe it explains why most of us in the public sector do not have appreciation for the most perishable & scarce resources. Waste of precious time is unacceptable & is one of the major paradigm changes we need to make as a country if we want to develop.

I was at the congregation at UCC & it was so on point. The Programme started right on time. We all should make that pledge not to waste our time & especially that of others. It does not show signs of respect.

The phenomenon of “Ghana time” must stop, it is not cultural. In my village in Tsiame & Anlo land, if the Chief ask you to come at a particular time in the olden days you have no choice & people will adhere strictly to the time, else you risk “torko atonlia”.

It is interesting that I have watched 2 major News Bulletins, TV3 & Multitv Ghana, (in my opinion the Best News Network currently, check how they covered the Election) report the congregation but none mentioned this long delay & don’t be surprised that the paper I am Editor-In-Chief for might also not report that.

As a people we have come to accept this, it is mediocrity & we should not accept it. I know we are all guilty but that is not an excuse, its the reason for our lower middle country status in the mist of all these rich resources both material & human. It is no good.

GIMPA I pray this is not systemic, if it is please change, maybe introduce a course module for all great people you train & educate. After all today you congregated the 1st lady, the wife of the running mate of the NPP, the former Minister of Infomation & outgoing MP, the incoming MP for Odododiodio among others & least I forget yours truely’s better half as well.

Ghana we are all guilty of this Ghana Time thing, it is terrible, it is unchristian, it is stealing other people’s time & it is the height of mediocrity,lets stop it & we all need to change.

Mr. Ashigbi you’ve hit the nail right on the head, you couldn’t have said it any better! Thanks for bringing it to the attention of the nation. I think this is because of the open ended nature of our programmes here in Ghana. This has given organisers the latitude to behave the way they do!

Apsu Ken,hmmmmmm i thought i was the only one cos i dnt joke wt ma time at aaaaalllll.am sure it was bcos d prez was at the aglow prayers ba at least they cud hv explained or work arnd it aaaaaba.i feel sorry wt his ghana time approach.we certainly need to do better

    But it did not have to take the President to come to apologies. He did well by apologizing once he took the podium. Did you see him get own to see the Chief Imam off when he asked permission to leave. For me I will praise when due & criticize when the occasion calls for it.

    The leaders of the school if they had any respect for time had to apologies to us as we went past the 8:30am & as the President was attending an equally important event we could have started & when the President came in we slotted him back into the Programme. We need to all get angry about this backward attitude to time. It will not help Ghana. I am starting a personal crusade not to be late to any event, if I cannot help it I will call to ask to be excused. It will take some doing, but we all need to be disciplined.
