My take on Today Sermon, my birthday 12th August 2012

19th Sunday in Ordinary Time – Sunday, August 12, 2012 – My Birthday
1. God invites us into a deeper meditation of Jesus the Bread of Live
2. FIRST READING
1 Kings 19:4–8
Elijah went a day’s journey into the desert, until he came to a broom tree and sat beneath it. He prayed for death, saying: “This is enough, O LORD! Take my life, for I am no better than my fathers.” He lay down and fell asleep under the broom tree, but then an angel touched him and ordered him to get up and eat. Elijah looked and there at his head was a hearth cake and a jug of water. After he ate and drank, he lay down again, but the angel of the LORD came back a second time, touched him, and ordered, “Get up and eat, else the journey will be too long for you!” He got up, ate, and drank; then strengthened by that food, he walked forty days and forty nights to the mountain of God, Horeb.
3. Elijah listened to God’s call to go to Mountatian of God. His humanness he despaired & wanting to die. After God fed him the 1st time he still not did not belief. God had to send an angle the 2nd time.
4. But God strengthened Elija to be able to complete the rest of 39 days & saw the salvation of God. That is what the Eucharist does for us. It strengthens us in our journey of life & leads us finally to God our maker on our own Mount Horeb.
5. GOSPEL
John 6:41–51
The Jews murmured about Jesus because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven,” and they said, “Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph? Do we not know his father and mother? Then how can he say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?” Jesus answered and said to them, “Stop murmuring among yourselves. No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draw him, and I will raise him on the last day. It is written in the prophets: They shall all be taught by God. Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me. Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God; he has seen the Father. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died; this is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”
6. Christ tells the Jews that if God does not draw us like He drew Elija we cannot come to Him Christ our God.
7. Christ is the bread of life, & if we believe that He is the Bread of life & that it is His Actual Body & Blood that He gives us to eat then we cannot gain access to heaven. This concept of the Eucharist that was ordained on the Thursday before He was Crucified has been difficult to many people in History. Even up till today many Christians are still missing the opportunity through doubting Christ word when He says THIS IS MY BODY & says THIS IS MY BLOOD OF THE NEW CONVERNANT DO THIS IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME. Even though we cannot see the Holy Spirit we know it is with us because Christ says so & we believe it & because we believe it. The Holy Spirit continues to work in our lives. That is what a lot of Christians are missing because we do not belief what Christ says about His Body & Blood. We who believe bear testimony of what The Eucharist continuous to do in our life. Our God is a living God.
8. Emperor Nero also thought the early Christians were killing kids & using their body & blood, because they confessed that they were part taking in the real Body & Blood of Christ & the Emperor mistook it to be something else, he got the message that there was a transformation of the bread & wine into actual Body & Blood. But he failed to realize that the King of Kings has the power to continue to feed His people with His Actual Body & Blood everyday they celebrated His Passover in remembrance of Him. I pray that we will not let disbelief in the Power of the Word made Flesh.
At the reformation some Christain also did not belief what Christ said, but thought the bread represented but not the body of Christ
9. Thank God we still believe that it is the real body & blood of Christ. This is what makes us saved as Christ promised in the Bible.
10. Do this in remembrance of me in Jews language & culture is not like the way we remember our birthdays. It is not a figment of our imagination. But for them the remembrance of the Passover, was a reenactment of the actual Passover where the Angle Passover the Land & looks out for the blood on the doorpost. But it is the same thing that Christ commanded His Apostles to do. We are making Chrit present & He recelebrtes the last Supper with us any time we celebrate Mass & the Word is spoken, the Priest stands in persona of Christ & it is Christ Himself who comes down to do as He said that night & to turn the common bread & wine into His Holy Body & Blood. Let’s not be like the most of the Jews in John 6:41, who found Christ promise of feeding them with His Body & Blood too much to take & left Him & lost the opportunity f salvation.
11. So Christ will be with us through our live journey like the way God strengthens Elija & went with Him through the journey till we meet God.
12. We are not to grieve the Holy Spirit who has been given to us to take us through our journey of live.
13. We cannot combine taking the Eucharist & go back to our old ways in the 2nd reading
14. SECOND READING
Ephesians 4:30—5:2
Brothers and sisters:
Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with which you were sealed for the day of redemption. All bitterness, fury, anger, shouting, and reviling must be removed from you, along with all malice. And be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another as God has forgiven you in Christ.
So be imitators of God, as beloved children, and live in love, as Christ loved us and handed himself over for us as a sacrificial offering to God for a fragrant aroma.
15. We are the Eucharistic family we need to do our part through the grace God has given us & God will be with us through the Presence of the Holy Spirit
This is a message to all of us both Management & Staff
16. Eph 6:5Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; 6 Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; 7 With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: 8 Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free. 9 And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him. 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
