Operation Vanguard Calls for more citizens support to deepen the gains
Operation Vanguard is calling for support from all citizens to ensure that more success will be achieved in the #StopGalamsey fight. In the Operation Vanguard Report covering 12th to 19th of March, the PRO for the force Capt Andy Sowetey said “Although OP VANGUARD is making progress in the fight against illegal mining, public support is paramount in our efforts. In this regard, any information that can support our operations from the citizens within these mining areas would be very much appreciated. Individuals should not hesitate to come forward with valuable information that can assist in our fight against illegal mining.”
Over the past week (12th to 19th March), Military and Civilian Police personnel deployed on OP VANGUARD continued to conduct simultaneous land and riverine operations from their Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) in fulfillment of their Mission. Through their tireless efforts, several arrests were effected and equipment were also seized/destroyed. The FOB operating within the ASHANTI Region over the week conducted several operations which resulted in the seizure of 2 excavators and 2 generators and the demolition of some 46 Changfangs.

FOB WESTERN personnel within the week also conducted operations within the locales of Gwira and Prestea-Huni Valley Districts were some 5 excavators were seized. 4 suspected illegal miners who were arrested were handed over to Civil Police at the Tarkwa and Prestea Police Stations. Additionally, 4 Changfang machines recovered were demolished.
Personnel from FOB EASTERN arrested 13 suspected illegal miners from Cote D’Ivoire, Mali and Guinea who have since been transported to the Accra office of the Immigration Service for further action.

In various operations conducted from FOB CENTRAL within the general areas of Upper Denkyira East and Upper Denkyira West Districts, 4 water pumping machines and a washing plant were confiscated in addition to 13 changfangs that were destroyed.
