The Partisan Politics on Galamsey has started – Ghanaians we should be wise & demand details from all

I seem to be a prophet, but I am not, just a Engineer who works with empirical data. Politics might derail the #StopGalamsey Fight as the 2020 election approaches! If Ghanaians do not stay vigilant and demand details and specifics of any plans and promises to deal with the resolution. If the media does not reawaken to their impressive and unprecedented #StopGalamsey fight. The next elections will render all the work that has been done in this #StopGalamsey fight useless and all the sacrifices that have been made including what the legal small scale miners  have done will come to nought. Unfortunately the STAR Ghana project was for 1 year & the Media Coalition has not able to raise enough funds from other sources to keep pushing on the campaign. But we are still in the marketing asking Corporate Ghana, the State and other CSO who believe in the cause to support us continue the fight. There is still a lot more work to be:

  • Further Stakeholder Engagements on the Roadmap & also add Communications Strategy to win the hearts & soul of Ghanaians in our quest to move from illegal mining to sustainable small scale mining.
  • MMIP Launch and Implementation
  • Improvement of the Justice Delivery System to ensure that we have deterring sentences for those found guilty of illegal mining
  • Equip Operation Vanguard – Night Vision Accoutrements, Drones & other equipment required to improve their work
  • Intensify the name, shame & push for prosecution
  • Monitoring of Water Bodies
  • Monitoring of destruction & reclamation of lands
  • Production of a comprehensive documentary to win the hearts & soul of Ghanaians to support the transition from illegal small scale mining to sustainable mining.
  • Airing of Documentary on TV & Social Media
  • Packaging of the drama on the impact of illegal mining on Ghanaians for TV & Social Media
  • Engagement with the District Mining Committee to ensure that they doing their work
  • Catch the young in the fight – Form Students Groups and Clubs to help the advocacy
  • Engagement of Traditional Leaders Across the Country

So see what the politicians have started. Myjoyonline reports Mahama promises law to regulate ‘galamsey’ if elected president

Former President John Dramani Mahama is promising to ensure the regulation of the artisanal small-scale mining sector in order to provide sustainable employment for the youth.

He says this will ensure that artisanal mining is environmentally friendly to the country’s water bodies, among others.

Addressing separate meetings of mining communities in the Upper Denkyira East and West constituencies in the Central Region as well as Obuasi East and Obuasi West constituencies in the Ashanti Region on Monday, Mr. Mahama said

his government resorted to new ways of tackling the galamsey problem when it became clear that using the military to clamp down on them was not going to provide a long-term solution.

He added that his government, therefore, considered a new legal regime for addressing the issue.

“But the current government is promising a new policy and we are hoping that they implement it to allow small-scale miners to start working immediately. If not, the NDC government to be formed after the 2020 general elections would implement a new regulation to enable the small-scale miners work effectively,” he announced.

Mr. Mahama who is on a four-day campaign tour of the Ashanti Region ahead of the flag bearer election of the NDC, also bemoaned the harsh economic conditions prevailing in the country and promised to work hard to reduce the high cost of living, when elected in the 2020 elections.

Ex president Mahama made comment about how he will regulate (galamsey) when elected as president in 2021. We Ghanaians haven’t forgotten you were president of this nation just two years ago and you couldn’t do anything to regulate galamsey operation, the most shameful thing Ghanaians will recall is that, most of your appointees in the mining areas were also engaging in galamsey and as the then president you couldn’t call them to order. What shows you can regulate galamsey when you are elected?

We Ghanaians are discerning and we remember very well how Chinese Nationals flooded the country with your approval to destroy our lands, when His Excellency Nana Addo assumed office more than half of our water bodies were destroyed by Chinese galamseyers under your watch but Nana Addo used lawful means to flush out these Chinese to protect our water bodies and gradually those waters that were being destroyed are now getting clean and clear.

President Mahama sometime ago described we Ghanaians as people who have short memory and later made this infamous comment (AKOKOR SA KYERE AKOROMA ENYE NO FE) to people in the Ashanti region, president Mahama further said even if the roads in Ashanti region are painted with gold the people won’t be satisfied with his performance, these words are big insult to the people within the region. About 85% roads in Ashanti region were unmotorable under your tenure and you come back here to seek reelection?

Mr ex president you treated Ashanti region as an orphan region so excuse us with your political gimmicks. His Excellency Nana Addo is committed to the regulation of small scale mining and very soon our hard working small scale miners will start operating lawfully under his watch and water bodies will be protected as well.
