Osei-Wusu ask Chinese Ambassador to tell her nationals to stop galamsey

The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament is my man of the moment. I will seek an appointment to meet him and congratulate him in person. He is really focussed on the #StopGalamsey fight. He uses every opportunity he gets to further the fight. Mr. Osei-Wusu you are a great fighter for the cause to bring sustainable mining and an end to illegality in Ghana. Kudos, read the GBC’s story about how he confronted the Chinese Ambassador about the damage that China is doing to Ghana. China should stop their people & Ghanaian leaders should also do more to win the fight against illegal mining and promote sustainable small scale mining. The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Wusu has asked the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Sun Baohong, and her successor to prevail upon their nationals to stop engaging in galamsey and other illegal activities in the country.

Mr. Osei-Wusu said, it is disturbing that the beautiful relations between Ghana and China is being marred by activities of Chinese who are straying into areas or businesses solely reserved for Ghanaians.

Mr. Osei-Wusu stated these when the Chinese Ambassador paid a courtesy call on the leadership of Parliament to bid them farewell after a four year duty tour of Ghana.

Mr. Osei -Wusu also complained about the Chinese visa application processes. According to him, Ghanaians especially, are made to pay various sums of money to agents before being granted visas.

In her response, Madam Sun Boahong, said her government has done a lot to ensure that its citizens engage in only legal activities in Ghana. She said, Chinese authorities will not interfere with enforcement of the laws of the land when its citizens are found to be doing things contrary to the law.

Madam Sun Boabong said, the Embassy does not deal with agents. She encouraged those desiring to go to China to apply directly through its website.

Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin praised China for how far it has come as a super power. Mr. Bagbin said he is delighted at the feat because he is particularly against a unipolar world. He called for the establishment of a China Town in Ghana.
