9 illegal miners arrested at Ntonteng in the Ashanti Region

The Nkawie Forestry Commission has caused the arrest of Nine (9) illegal miners at Ntonteng near Nkawie in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti region.

The illegal miners, widely known in Ghana as Galamsey operators were arrested when they stormed the Jimira forest reserve to do mining.

The nine, comprising of Eight men and one woman are Michael Gyamfi, Kwame Kwakye, Abdullai Iddrisu, Daniel Agyei, Haruna Seidu, Agyei Bernard, Kwaku Gyamfi, Afia Cynthia, Adunai.

The Nkawie District Forestry Commission Manager Nana Opoku Bosompem speaking to the media warned Ghanaians especially the youth to refrain from encroaching forest lands.

He further advised Ghanaians to stop illegal mining and respect the ban on galamsey. He also urged the public to support the government to combat illegal miners by reporting suspected individuals to make the fight against illegal mining successful.

The suspects are currently at Nkawie Police Station.
