Sunday Sermon – 31st July by Hon Rodney Nkrumah-Boateng

And it came to pass, in the days of the ruler called John the Mahama, who was also known as Opana, that three men rose up in the land and said to the people:

“Our judges are *********** and *********** (Sorry Hon Rodney, Ken cannot reproduce them, unprintable words). They have sold justice and have offended the Lord and humanity” And they said:

“Behold, for the wrath of the people will follow soon, and there shall be pestilence and marriages in the land.”

And the Sanhedrin of judges summoned the three and said unto them: “show us why we should not have you crucified in Nsawam.” And the men began to tremble and beg, for they were afraid. And the Pharisees chanted “crucify them!! “, even as the crowd chanted before Pontius Pilate in the days of our Lord Jesus Christ.

And the Sanhedrin condemned them to four months in the wilderness, that they may sin no more.

And the followers of John the Mahama rose and said, ” Oh merciful John, show your mercy and return these men from the wilderness, for you have the power, and the Sanhedrin’s punishment was harsh.” And his disciples and cheerleaders trooped to put their names on a scroll to be presented to John The Mahama.

And some Pharisees urged him to grant the men, but it was a trap they hoped to lure him into, so that they may strike like a thief in the night.

And John The Mahama lay in bed and sweated and thought : If I grant these men mercy, the Pharisees will crucify me and I will no longer lead the people. And if I do not, my people will say I have forsaken those men who chanted to the people for my sake.

And John The Mahama rolled and tossed in anguish until his bed sheets were wet with sweat.

And as he fell into a trance, the Lord appeared to him and said:

“John my son, I see you are troubled. I have heard your cry and anguish. Read my word I gave to mankind through my servant Paul, in the twelfth verse of the sixth chapter of his first epistle to the Corinthians”

And John woke up from his trance, reached across his wife Lordina, took the word of God and read:

“All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful”

Thus ends our Sunday reading.
