Mr. MP you are so wrong in your attack of the EC Chairperson – Ace Ankomah
There is a report on Social Media that an MP with the NPP has used unprintable words insulting the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Mrs. Charlotte Osei. This is a woman I have known officially working as MD of Graphic and when she led the NCCE. I can attest that Charlotte is a very smart woman and will be able to hold her own for any task on the basis of her qualification and pedigree. So if the MP made the misogynic comments attributed to him then that is unfortunate and he should do what real men will do and apologize.
Other people disagreed with the MP and took on to social media to express their disgust and I share below the comments from Ace Ankomah and the response of others. I will also in the 2nd edition share the take of Franklin Cudjoe.
I have read comments allegedly made about EC Boss Mrs. Charlotte Osei by an MP. I am deliberately not naming the MP because, these days, strange happenings on the Internet and social media makes one careful about the veracity of such stories.
Or, maybe, the content of this story is so outrageous and sickening that there is a part of me that wishes it wasn’t true.
But just for the records, I was in Legon when a Miss Charlotte Kesson-Smith (now Mrs. Charlotte Osei) also entered Legon, same faculty, then School of Law. Then she worked as a TA at the Faculty. Then she attended the same Canadian grad school as I did, Queen’s University. Years later she worked as an Associate in my firm. Now she’s EC boss.
When we celebrated our 25th anniversary, we were honoured to host her at one of the events as an alum that we are proud of.
I have two daughters, and I hope that they will go pursue education, at least, up the level that Charlotte achieved. I believe that their mother, aunts and grandmother, and several other women are inspirations to them, encouraging them to be all they can be.
I would go ballistic if anyone suggests, in the future, that they are only who or what they are and will become, for any reason other than personal attainment and achievement. And I will shoot anyone who says that other reason is sex.
Charlotte has a dad too. Whether this story is true or not, he must feel as offended as I can only imagine I would be, if not more.
I call on all well-meaning Ghanaians to speak up and out against this and any other denigration of women. The African woman works against considerable odds to attain heights that men take for granted. It is not allowed for her to be denigrated in this manner, simply because a person disagrees with her.
I call on political parties whose members make such comments to have the guts, spine and cojones to condemn such statements too.
Ali Dabuo Mohammed said in his comment that “For me words can’t express how sad I feel. What on earth in the name of politics and power will make people be this wicked and inconsiderate towards fellow human being?? How will he feel if someone made same about his family member?”
Then Adofo Emmanuel also in a separate comments said Hmmmm sad but some Ghanaians sadly are cheering him on as they have done previously. We have developed such a bad habit in our politics that whenever you disagree with someone the only opportunity left is to attack the person. Sad. We all have mothers, sisters and daughters. Again, nobody in his party would be bold enough to stop him. Let him carry on. God is watching us
Then Emmanuel Kwame Adu-Poku replied to the post by Adofo Emmanuel and jumped to the defense of the MP. He was attempting to say that two wrongs make a right. I am not sure that is a position that will help us in our development. This is what he had to say “The man u guys are referring to has also suffered same character assassination from some of us condemning him without any prove of those allegations. hypocrisy and selective judgment is what is killing us. I remember what Anita of NDC said on about on AdomFm.
The Adofo Emmanuel rebutted Kwame Adu-Poku, by saying “Where is the hypocrisy? Has this woman insulted Ken Agyepong? Please let’s not tolerate some of this behavior because of politics. The fact that he has had whatever with people doesn’t mean he should continue insulting everyone. He did it to Kuffour, Mpianim, and now Charlotte. It must stop. If those of you in the party think it is good cheer him on. Time will tell”
