My Nov 2019 Review of BA on Trip Advisor – Very Little seem to have Changed
I wrote this piece on Trip Advisor on the 19th of November 2019 on Trip Advisor, but BA did not even respond. Either they do not care or they do not have systems to track this. I have just been told that Business Class passengers continue to share washrooms with those in economy class. Very little seems to have changed. What has been your experience with BA if you travel with them? This is the summary of what I wrote on Trip Advisor
My experience with British Airways from Accra to London in November 2019 was terrible. Despite my efforts to provide feedback on Trip Advisor, BA never responded, leading me to question their commitment to customer satisfaction and feedback tracking. The service was subpar, and I cannot recommend British Airways to anyone based on my experience. The fares are exorbitant compared to competitors, and Business class passengers receive no preferential treatment once they leave the lounge. The cabin design offers no privacy for Business class passengers, and they share washrooms with economy class passengers. The flights were on outdated aircraft without toilet wipes or seat covers in the toilets. There was no preferential treatment for Business class passengers on buses, and luggage was delayed. My fragile box was lost for hours, and the handle of my bag was broken with no one to report to. I felt completely disrespected after paying so much for a flight, and I will never fly BA again from Accra. The details as follows
It seems because British Airways is the only direct flight from Accra to London, they take us, Ghanaians, for granted and you do not respect us. Apart from the check-in staff at KIA who were nice & the flight that did not have turbulence at all. Everything else was bad.
The British Airways fares are unnecessarily high, considering the service you offer us compared to what your competitors do apart from the direct flight. You offer our brothers and sisters from Nigeria better deals, more luggage allowance and a better aircraft. Why do you treat Ghanaians this bad? Is it the fault of our leaders or it is because as Ghanaians passengers we are docile?
Though I travelling Business class we spent too long a time at the gate before we were boarded in Accra. Your competitors will call us and we will just board straight up. But for BA, we had to come and stand in a queue. But by then the Economy passengers had taken all the seats at the gate. There is no differential treatment once you leave the lounge.
On the flight to London, there were no toilet wipes in the toilets, there were no covers for the seats and the toilets had a smell. The aircraft was an old one, I am sure it was the same one I used on both flights.
The cabin design does not offer Business class passengers any privacy. Passengers from the Economy class share washrooms. Because my seat 17J was close to the toilet and there was so much traffic from the Economy passengers too, I did not get the rest I needed on the flights.
Why have you moved flights from Accra from Terminal 5, it is because we are from Ghana and we do not deserve to be at T5? It is so unfair
The gate you parked when we got to London was so so far, we had to walk several meters to get to Board Control. That is a journey that should have been done by a vehicle, either a tram or bus. But for BA, who are these Africans to be given some courtesies at all? And to make matters worse on my return to Accra, the drive from the boarding gate on the tarmac to the aircraft was just so long and bumpy and it took forever. Here too there was no preferential treatment given to Business Class passengers. We all had to struggle with the Economy passengers for space to stand on the bus.
When we got to the airport luggage carousel in Heathrow, as business class travellers you would expect our bags to come first, but no, it was after a long time with bags from Economy coming before our bags came in and I had to go ask before grudgingly someone informed us that there was a technical problem. It was too much to ask for British Airways to come to inform us of this challenge.
The Accra experience was worse, I had checked in a fragile box and had to wait from 8 pm when the plane landed till 9:48 p.m. when I had to go find some Aviance staff to beg to find my box for me. So what is the value of the priority tag you put on the baggage?
To make matters worse British Airways broke the handle of my bag when we got to London. There was no one to report to. I sent a complaint through a feedback form I filled out when BA sent me a survey to fill out. But I was told that when I got to check in at London on my return that there were specific forms to fill and that it did not matter that there was no one to report to.
I have never felt so disrespected after paying so much money for a flight. I will NEVER fly BA again from Accra and I will ensure no one in any organization I work fly British Airways. This is not the way to treat your passengers.
