30 Soldiers attack Anti Illegal Mining Task Force – January 2021
What will happen to this company who are abusing their prospecting license? It is not enough for the caretaker of the Ministry of Lands to just say they are mining illegally with a prospecting license. There are several companies like this who are raping our environment. The Minerals & Mining Act as amended specify very punitive sanctions for such illegality. Ghanaians, the Chinese & all involved. should be investigated, prosecuted, jailed and fined heavily.
Who in the military gave these illegal miners cover to do this illegality. The Military High Command should know better, our taxes cannot be providing protection for illegality. Whoever sanctioned this operation without monitoring what is being done here should be brought to book.
What is the Minerals Commission doing about this, the Donald Atua claims he has the license to mine. Even if he did which I doubt because the Minister says he only has prospecting permit, why are they desecrating the environment in this manner?
This is why it would be a sin to prevent the poor Ghanaian who also do some illegal mining to just make living. Some of our citizens, the poor illegal miners are languishing in jail but these Chinese & their Ghanaian saboteurs are still out enjoying the fruit of the poisoned forest, not tree.
This should stop. We need to take partisanship out of this and end this. Civil Society, Media, our Traditional Leaders, our Clergy, Academia & the Professional bodies ought to act. Mr President, we are waiting for your call for a national discussion on illegal mining. In the interim, the constitutionally mandated bodies, the Mineral Commission, EPA, District Mining Committee, the Police should act and perform their lawful duties.
How can we be this wicked? The media needs to re-strategize. What can you & I do to help?
