3 More Chinese Arrested engaged in Galamsey on 20th May 2019 at Bonsa

Operation Vanguard is still arresting more Chinese people involved in Galamsey. The question is what has happened to all the foreigners and Ghanaians who have been involved and been arrested, how many have been prosecuted, how many have been convicted, what sentences have been given to them, where are they serving them?

We need to also ask what is the status of those yet to be prosecuted, those undergoing prosecution, what is the status. For too long our journalists do not follow up on these cases. We speak about them for a short while and we allow it to do. What has happened to the Chinese lady arrested with 4 contianers of Rosewood? What has happened to the person who stood surety for her? Have we investigated her claims of bribery and what has happened to all the police post she pass through before she was arrested? 

We need answers for all of these questions to hold our leaders accountable. Ghana media we need to step up the tempo of the #StopGalamsey fight. You are dropping the ball. 

Operation Vanguard in their latest report on the 21st of May says some illegal miners shot at them. My call on Operation Vanguard, is shoot back in self-defense when these people shoot at you. We should not tolerate their lawlessness and they need to realize that the law works in Ghana. Yes use appropriate response but definitely fire back in self-defense.

In a day-long patrol conducted by VANGUARD personnel in the Western Region on the 20th of May 2019, 3 suspected Chinese illegal miners were arrested. The suspects, who have been identified as Zhou Bing Guang, 47, Zhou Zengkui, 28 and Shi Zhotingquin, 34 were apprehended within the general area of Bonsa in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality in the Western Region.

Both the suspects and a Sinoinpzii branded excavator they were operating have been handed over to IMCIM for further action.

Other Operations
Other operations that were conducted within the period resulted in the seizure of a single barrel rifle, one locally manufactured rifle and the immobilization of an excavator and 178 Changfans.

Caution to Illegal Miners
Some suspected illegal miners, in a recent operation, fired upon VANGUARD personnel when they approached their location. This attitude is unacceptable and Operation VANGUARD is, therefore, sounding a word of caution that it will not hesitate to defend itself if fired upon.
