Motivation for the Week, 6th January 2019

By Rev. Fr. Raymond Osei Tutu

Alice Sebold in “The Lovely Bones” says, “Sometimes the dreams that come true are the dreams you never even knew you had.” The year 2019 has begun and pretty much all of us have fanciful hopes and dreams for the New Year. Some are believing in “some prophetic words” and others are fighting over the fleeting. We are to be optimistic and why not! But don’t we also have to be realist? When you want to see the world for what it really is, see it also for all the horrors the news can’t or won’t report. Not all that glitters is gold.

There’s a moment when you realise all your worst fears have come true. Maybe this is that year. So, let me read you your rights for 2019: You have a right to live as you please, but whatever you say or don’t say, whatever you do or don’t do from this moment will be used against you in the court of Action and Reaction by 31st Dec 2019 for those who will make it till then. Others will face this court way before this date while some will live past it.

3.-Rev.-Fr-Raymond-Osei-Tutu Motivation for the Week, 6th January 2019
Rev. Fr Raymond Osei Tutu – Author

In the year when all time seized and re-begun, there lived a king of Judea, Herod, who felt all that made life was to subdue and dominate all situations and persons (Gen 1:28). He was the king of his own life. He ruled over the Jews by domination instead of shepherding (Mt 2:6); He lived in a Palace instead of a “Manger”; He surrounded himself with priests and prophets instead of believing in the Word of God (Mt 2:4); His words were always sweet to the ears but full of deception (Mt 2:7-8); His rage knew no bounds as long as it produced his temporal reliefs and desires (Mt 2:16), no wonder the sound of truth got him greatly troubled (Mt 2:3); His motto was win or profit at all cost. History they say repeats itself. Herod is the Epitome of today’s Christian, I mean You and I. He represents those of us in clerical garbs as well as the ones rolling, dancing and shouting all the big Amen and Hallelujahs in the Church and on social media. When are we going to wake up to this dream of “Herod deception”? Remember the court of Action and Reaction!

So, before you start another year with the sole mind to subdue and dominate, just take your time to re-read Gen 1:28 very well and notice how it begins: “And God Blessed Them…”. He who does not recognise this is a Herod, chasing after the wind. When God blessed Abraham, he became a blessing unto the nations. God has blessed you to become President, Politician, Pastor, Priest, Partner, Parent, Pupil or a Person of importance into 2019. What will you become to the SIMPLE PEOPLE around you? May our “Christian domination and subduing” be counted and numbered only because of our service and sacrifice to one and all. For if Christ is King, He rules first from the Cross (Mt 27:37). Christian wisdom is seeking Christ like the Magi did, among the Herods around us, finding Him to worship in spirit and truth, whiles offering our worth, and beginning each day on a new route to holiness (Mt 2:12). Thus, be resolved to change your Herod Ways in 2019 because of the Christ that lives in you.

Happy New Year!!!

May your Week not be Weak but with Him! I send you my prayerful wishes for the week.
