40-year-old man drowns in ‘galamsey’ pit
Today the Media Coalition Against Galamsey were at the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to engage the leadership. We were met by by the 2 deputy ministers and their team. The Minister is out of town. My take out is that the MMIP will be launched soon and the government were putting structures in place for the ban on small scale mining to lifted but illegal mining galamsey will continue to be what it is illegal.

Sunyani, May 08, GNA – The body of an unidentified man believed to be in his forties has been found floating in an abandoned ‘galamsey’ pit at Wamanafo in the Dormaa West District of Brong-Ahafo Region.
Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong, the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer confirmed to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday in Sunyani.

He said the Police had information on Saturday, May 6, 2018 at about 18:20 hours from some community members that a lifeless body was floating in an abandoned ‘galamsey’ pit in the area.
Chief Inspector Oppong said accompanied by a team of health and environmental personnel, Police went to the site and retrieved the body from the pond.
There were no marks of assault on the body of deceased but was in a decomposed state, he added and appealed to the general public to help the Police to identify the family of deceased.
