Attack on journalists anywhere is attack on all of us – Lets all protect them
One of the new focus of my blog will be to track and follow journalists that are being attacked in line of duty. It is not acceptable and it should stop. All kind of people engage in this dastardly acts, from political actors, families of suspects, international footballers, thugs and common criminal. We should all bear in mind that journalists in carrying out their duties are defending our rights to free speech and they do it on our behalf.
Yes as human being we are bound to make mistakes as journalists but attacking, beating, assaulting and even killing us is not the way to go. There various ways to seek redress and as a civilised nation we should all protect our media. I will seek the support of like minded lawyers and we will be coming after you who attack journalists using all the powers the constitution and the laws of Ghana give us. We shall win against you, light will prevail against darkness, good will beat evil.

The GJA should keep a least-we -forget list of journalist and media people who have been assaulted and some killed at a prominent place at our office & also commemorate them every year at the GJA Awards.
Please read a terrible reminder of the world of journalists and media people who seek to expose wrong as reported by Transparency International
Three months have passed since journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia was brutally assassinated when a car bomb placed under her car exploded as she drove away from her home in Bidnija, Malta. A specialist in investigating corruption, she courageously worked to uncover how politicians and others hide illicit wealth behind secret companies.

Unfortunately, justice is yet to be had for her death. Vigils were held this week in her honour, reminding us that her legacy continues and those who expose and fight corruption must be protected, not attacked.
We have immense respect for those who shine a light on corruption and put their safety on the line for the greater good, such as Daphne. But her murder is not an isolated case. In 2017 a total of 44 journalists were killed for doing their jobs.
We continue to demand that the Maltese authorities bring her killers to justice. We are also calling on the UN to take greater steps to protect investigative journalists who play a vital role in making the world less corrupt.
