New offices of Process and Plant Automation Limited Commissioned

The Managing Director of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL),Ing. Kenneth Ashigbey, has underscored the need for the government to give preference to local engineers in the award of contracts and jobs.

He said some of the engineers had exhibited great potential in the field and so instead of relying mostly on foreign engineers, they should be given the opportunity to demonstrate their skills.

Considering the fact that Ghana’s development and growth were heavily dependent on engineering,Ing. Ashigbey said, local engineers were capable of driving that force to ensure quality of life for the citizenry. “They should be valued to assume their proper place in the development and growth of Ghana,” he added.

Facility

Ing. Ashigbey made these remarks at the inauguration of a new building complex for Process and Plant Automation Limited (PPA), a local electrical engineering company on the Spintex Road in Accra.

Other services provided by the company include electrical installation, tank inventory management, building management, energy management, electrical and control panels, and industrial solutions.

The facility serves as an automation hub house, provides solutions for the industrial, building construction and real estate markets and offers practical training.

The building, which is powered by more than 600 square metres of sollar panels, can generate up to 400 units of electricity daily.

Ghanaian engineers capable”

Ing. Ashigbey commended the Managing Director of the PPA, Ing. Kweku Asmah, an engineer, for the initiative, and added that “what PPA has done is a clear indication of what Ghanaian engineers could bring to bear on development if supported”.

He said using the sun to create energy was one innovation by the company, considering the fact that Ghana had abundance of sun and was also gearing towards alternative source of power.

“As an engineer, Ing. Asmah has exhibited what a Ghanaian engineer has to offer and I believe we should believe in ourselves and encourage our own to help build the country,” Ing. Ashigbey said.

In his remarks, Ing. Asmah said the building was equipped with modern building management system which allowed those controlling the facility to manage and conserve energy.

He said since January, this year, the company had been off the national grid, producing its own power from the sun and advised commercial buildings to emulate the example of PPA

With the current pace of development, he said, a modern facility provided by PPA was needed in the areas of industry and construction, as well as other sectors of the economy.
