Sad Days for Mother Ghana – Rev. Fr. Mawuli Antonio Ahiabor
This is a post by Fr. Ahiabor on Facebook which I am reposting. This is my comment when I read it
“Fr. Our Bishops as the Shepherds of our flock have every rights to speak when they believe things are not going right. Fr Mawuli Ahiabor you do not have to worry at all. Even Jesus Christ the one they follow and whose job they do suffered even more. So they should not be discouraged by this and should continue to be the conscience of the flock”
At this moment, I feel very very sad for this country. I come on social media and see how a lot of people are raining unprintable insults on the Catholic Bishops of Ghana, the Christian Council and other religious bodies for being the voice of the voiceless in the midst of this infamous decision of the government of Ghana.
Some people’s main argument is that, the bishops should restrain themselves to matters of religion and leave politicians to do their will and do what they feel like doing in running this country since we have given them the mandate to govern us?
What happened to accountability to the people?
What happened to freedom of speech and expression?
Is this the first time the venerable Bishops have spoken about a national issue?
Assuming without admitting that what the Bishops are saying lacks sense, is it not the same thing other security experts all over the world are saying?
This is strange . Their country is Yemen but they cannot be allowed there because they can be dangerous. America has passed a law preventing them from entering US. Now which mercy and compassion should move Ghana to take them. This is where the common sense is: those who captured them (USA) and are saying they are harmless cannot welcome them; their own country Yemen cannot take them, now why Ghana? A baby born today cannot take such a decision. For this, the decision lacked common sense.
And for those who think talking about security and other national issues is out of the domain of the Bishops, let us go back to history and find out how our Bishops had to be outspoken in the dark eras of this country to bring us where we are today. They spoke when everyone else was afraid. At that time we didn’t see them talking of their domain. Funny!
When the Bishops build schools (They are just uncountable, maybe Fr. Teresa Cross Codjoe can help me count) nobody insults them for operating beyond their limits. Interesting!
When the Bishops build hospitals, nobody insults them for doing what is not part of their duty as clerics. Wonderful!
When the Bishops open up the churches to shelter and feed refugees, nobody insults them for trespassing. Wow!
The list can go on and one without ending!
What on earth makes people think the Bishops cannot as well talk about the security concerns of this country???
I hope to get the answer soon.
I feel sad when I look at the calibre of people insulting the bishops, and I can only pray for forgiveness for them.
Keep praying for Mother Ghana!
