Celebrating Mr. Michael Plas Otwe (Aka COACH).- APSU Tribute By Senior Charles

This great Teacher will be laid to rest on Saturday 28th March, 2015 at the Asokyeano Cemetery, Cape Coast after Burial Service at the St. Lawrence Church, Abura.

APSU presented a certificate of recognition to him in 2010.

Every once in a while a certain spirit in human form enters our lives to leave an indelible mark, a clear path or a string of memories, so clear and so telling, that it is obvious that he is sent for your good. Usually however this phenomenon lasts for only a short while and is specific to a very lucky few.

When this phenomenon appears and stays for over three decades to brighten the lives of hundreds of young men with humor, intellect astute teaching and guidance, we have no way of capturing the immense gratitude and the depth of our love for this God sent spirit.

From this day forward any spirit that can achieve this can be said to have done an ”Otwe”. Michael Plas Otwe will live in the minds of old students of Augusco who had the privilege of having him pass through, as the genial giant who made life liveable in the strictly structured life of a student.

Those who learned to decipher mathematics at his feet swear to his genius; those who learned literally of the rhythms and pulses of history vividly recount his participatory processes.

On the field of sport or specifically football, he was Coach in more ways than one.

How he managed to be all these to so many for so long, weaving a pattern of care, concern and fatherly caution is the mystery we celebrate today with inadvertent chuckle and suddenly remembered anecdote. For everyone has an Otwe story.

He made common cause with Mansa Musa on our behalf just before our favourite lunch-quartet; and as he raised the battle cry “Mansa Musa oooosaaayyy yie” and the multitude which had gathered for the event answered in one throaty “yie. Yaaay” somewhere in that motely crowd singing it’s way to the dining hall an African patriot may have been formed.

But it was in the littler things. The firm but fatherly concern, the time taken to excite a lost boy’s sense of wonder at the beauty of maths; the faith he had in us, and his certainty of our success when we came back to tell.

These are the things we will never forget about you great teacher and inspirer. You have done your duty with love, now take your rest. O ancestors of our great school welcome him into your midst. The ranks of ancestry are swollen by the arrival of this enormous spirit.

THANKSGIVING SERVICE: Sunday 29th March, 2015 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church at 9am

CONTINUATION OF FINAL FUNERAL RITES: Sunday, 29th March, 2015 at OLA Low Cost Residence, Cape Coast

ATTIRE: Black & White. Let’s join the family to give Mr. Otwe a fitting send-off.
