Lets clean our beaches – This is not on
It is estimated that 6 million out of 26 million Ghanaians do it in the open every day, particularly along our beaches, and if you were wondering how come cholera is endemic in some coastal towns, below is the answer…. What is it that we are doing. Read on.
A very good friend of mine, an ardent advocate of clean beaches, attended a funeral at Teshie, a suburb of Accra, and caught cholera!!! If I were the President of the Republic of Ghana, I would give all DCEs, particularly the DCEs of the 26 coastal districts up to the end of this year to take steps to end open defecation. And I would go ahead and fire those who fall short! Ghana cannot continue to pay a heavy price and suffer losses of innocent lives due to this supervised mess!!!
Does it surprise you, therefore, that Ghana is West Africa’s best country in open defecation? Best, as in No 1 and biggest country in West Africa where more people do it in the open than any another West African country!!! Yes! You head me right!!! And in Africa, we are only second to South Sudan!!! And yes again, you head me right!!!
In the coming days, NShoreNa will be naming and shaming all DCEs who are just occupying space and happily supervising open defecation in their districts!!!
If you read the Daily Graphic of Monday the 25th of August, the Mayor of Accra is upset with Graphic that we only report what we want to see. What should the Daily Graphic be reporting when we have had over 50 deaths in Accra from cholera? Is this a fair comments from our Honourable Mayor & my friendÂ
